About the Illustrator, Itoko Maeno
Since arriving in the United States in 1982, Itoko Maeno has illustrated more than twenty six children's picture books with her enchanting, softly classic watercolor characters. Four of her titles have won national awards.
A self-professed lover of detail, Itoko enjoys the creative process of each project. "I love the way the images evolve," she explains. "As I do my research for each assignment, carefully sketching the characters and surrounding environment, I often become part of that character. Sometimes they surprise me."
With a zest for the whimsical and an intense attention to detail, Itoko brings a unique sense of fun to the Paper Posie product line.
Though Itoko lives in Santa Barbara, California, her artwork has been exhibited nationwide. She enjoys teaching for the Santa Barbara Museum of Art, reading and growing flowers. She is a graduate of Tokyo's Tama Art University with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Graphic Design.
